Position Overview:

The RF & Microwave Design Engineering Manager will:

  • Oversee a team of RF & Microwave Design Engineers in the creation and advancement of intricate solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs) and multifunction modules (MFMs) specifically for defense and aerospace applications, which may include wideband frequency converters, synthesizers, high-isolation switches, noise sources, phase shifters, power detectors, and variable gain amplifiers.
  • Direct personnel development, spearhead new business initiatives, and ensure the successful design, development, and transition of new products into production.
  • Enhance employee growth and operational efficiencies within the SSPA and Space Component design group to align with organizational objectives. Engage in recruitment and team building activities.
  • Lead technical efforts in designing RF architectures and systems utilizing chain analysis and frequency planning tools, primarily VSS.
  • Design RF components employing tools such as ADS, MWO, HFSS, Sonnet, Spice, or Cadence.
  • Assess and select devices suitable for applications while meeting customer specifications, including the design or application of LNAs, PAs, filters, mixers, frequency multipliers, isolators, couplers, and phase-locked oscillators and synthesizers.
  • Conduct trade studies focused on noise figure, power compression, spurious emissions, and bandwidth.
  • Engage in hardware layout, component assessment, prototype development, and testing.
  • Formulate testing methodologies and specifications, analyze, and validate hardware performance.
  • Facilitate design reviews such as PDR, CDR, and PRR, presenting findings to management and clients while leading project design teams.
  • Provide insights on technological advancements and contribute to enhancing our competitive edge in the industry, particularly regarding SWaP improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant experience with devices, circuits, and systems functioning at RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Proficient in designing circuits for high-frequency receivers, transmitters, and signal generation, with experience in design tools like MWO, ADS, HFSS, Sonnet, Spice, or Cadence.
  • Understanding of signal routing and packaging technologies for devices and subassemblies.
  • Ability to conceptualize initial component and system designs using schematics and block diagrams; lead project teams in assembly, testing, debugging, and optimization; and organize results for design reviews and client presentations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present effectively.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required; MSEE is preferred.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in the Microwave & RF sector, particularly at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Experience with Space Products is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in managing and developing technical teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a knack for innovative solutions.
  • Proficient lab skills using testing equipment, with the ability to tune and align circuits.
  • Familiarity with Matlab, Mathcad, or programming languages for complex analyses.
  • Proficient in electrical design software such as AWR's Microwave Office or ADS.
  • Knowledge of HFSS, CST, and/or Sonnet for electromagnetic simulation is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in preparing technical proposals to support new business ventures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to personal excellence and adherence to high corporate ethical standards.
  • Organizational skills to meet project goals and deadlines while leading multiple design teams and proposal tasks concurrently.
  • Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.
