The Defense Systems Group (DSG) offers analytical decision support to senior officials regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, and threat mitigation, thereby influencing future space missions within the national security space domain. DSG's unique position at Aerospace enables direct support to major clients, including military commands and senior Pentagon leadership, while also delivering a wide array of services across the national space landscape.

The ESS Program Office is in search of a driven Senior Project Leader specializing in Systems Engineering and Acquisition to collaborate within an integrated program office consisting of Space Force, Aerospace, and contractor personnel, focusing on the Evolved Strategic SATCOM (ESS) system acquisition. In this capacity, you will leverage your engineering expertise to support systems engineering, integration, and testing strategies throughout the prototyping, development, and deployment phases of the program, ensuring cohesive collaboration among government entities, ESS segment contractors, and other strategic partners.

Work Model - This role primarily involves in-office responsibilities in classified environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary representative for the working group, advising the customer and ESS program leadership on system requirements and engineering practices.
  • Provide strategic insights to Aerospace leadership and clients regarding risks, challenges, opportunities, and associated mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure effective execution of systems integration efforts across space, ground, and crypto segments of the ESS program.
  • Utilize systems engineering methodologies to assist clients in developing acquisition documents necessary for space, ground, and crypto initiatives.
  • Shape the requirements for the ESS System, including the development and approval of capability and requirements documents.
  • Evaluate mission trades between segments for system-level design reviews to identify optimal architectural solutions.
  • Maintain productive relationships with customer leadership and contractors, creating technical materials and presenting to key stakeholders.
  • Lead the Aerospace team in executing systems engineering, integration, and testing responsibilities, coordinating inputs from subject matter experts.
  • Mentor team members, providing guidance on technical and program office responsibilities.
  • Oversee program staffing budgets, identifying and recruiting experts to support acquisition activities.

Qualifications for Success - Senior Project Leader

  • A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible engineering or scientific experience in government programs.
  • Proven experience in systems engineering, requirements development, and program acquisition.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to balance technical details with broader programmatic perspectives.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Experience working with diverse groups.
  • Proficient in risk and schedule assessments.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related STEM field.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Active Secret clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is necessary for security clearance eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess:

  • An advanced technical degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
  • Experience with satellite communication systems and command/control systems.
  • Knowledge of government space acquisition processes.
  • Project management experience with a focus on system-level optimization.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace culture and collaboration with Engineering & Technology Group (ETG).
  • Active TS/SCI clearance or the ability to obtain one.
