Lead Propulsion Systems Engineer

Position Overview:
As a Lead Propulsion Systems Engineer, you will be integral to our Stage Hardware team, which focuses on vehicle-level fluid management, thermal and vibration solutions, and the design and integration of mechanical systems for avionics. You will have complete ownership of these systems, guiding them from initial design through to integration onto the flight vehicle.
- Take full responsibility for the design and development of vehicle fluid system hardware, avionics enclosures, and secondary structures.
- Manage all phases of the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, conceptual design, system layout, material selection, structural analysis, fluid analysis, CAD generation, manufacturing, testing, and integration.
- Interpret and refine vehicle fluid schematics (P&IDs) and ensure their accurate implementation.
- Conduct fluid component sizing and analysis using various methods, including hand calculations and advanced analysis tools.
- Collaborate with structures and avionics engineers to ensure seamless cross-functional designs.
- Develop comprehensive test plans for vehicle fluid systems and lead testing efforts to verify functionality.
- Create and present technical documentation that clearly communicates design intent and compliance with standards.
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Coordinate with manufacturing engineers and production partners for hardware integration and testing.
- Mentor junior engineers within the team.
- Occasionally travel to support operational objectives as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or similar sectors, with hands-on experience in developing complex fluid and mechanical systems.
- Experience in detailed mechanical component design and structural analysis.
- Proficiency in interpreting and defining Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Familiarity with interface control documents and other essential technical documentation.
- Experience collaborating across engineering disciplines to define requirements and implement solutions.
- Proficient in CAD software such as Siemens NX.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, FEMAP/NASTRAN).
- Experience designing efficient metallic components.
- Strong understanding of GD&T principles.
- Practical experience with manufacturing methods, including machining and welding.
- Familiarity with high-pressure or cryogenic fluid systems.
- Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics and properties.
- Experience with fluid network analysis tools.
- Understanding of aerospace vehicle environments and load sources.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
