Within the Defense Systems Group (DSG), we provide analysis-driven decision support to senior leaders regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, developmental planning, and system of systems engineering. This group plays a vital role in shaping future space missions across the national security space enterprise, directly supporting major clients, including Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command.
The ESS Program Office is on the lookout for a highly driven Senior Project Leader specializing in Systems Engineering and Acquisition to collaborate within an integrated program office involving Space Force, Aerospace, and contractor personnel. This role will leverage engineering expertise to support systems engineering, integration, and testing strategies throughout the prototyping, development, and deployment phases of the program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary representative for the working group, advising program leadership on system requirements and engineering practices.
- Provide insights to leadership and clients regarding risks, issues, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure effective execution of systems integration efforts across various segments of the ESS program.
- Apply systems engineering methodologies to assist in the development of acquisition documents necessary for space, ground, and crypto initiatives.
- Define requirements for the ESS System, including the creation and approval of capability and requirements documents.
- Conduct mission trade assessments for system-level design reviews to identify optimal architectures.
- Maintain productive relationships with customer leadership and contractors, creating technical materials and presenting to stakeholders.
- Lead the Aerospace team in executing systems engineering, integration, and testing responsibilities.
- Mentor team members, providing guidance on technical duties and program responsibilities.
- Oversee program staffing budgets and recruit subject matter experts for acquisition activities.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant professional engineering or scientific experience.
- Experience in systems engineering, requirements development, and program acquisition.
- Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and communicate effectively.
- Capacity to navigate high-pressure environments with changing priorities.
- Active Secret clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is necessary for clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
- Experience with satellite communication systems and command/control systems.
- Familiarity with government space acquisition processes.
- Project management experience with system-level optimization skills.
- Knowledge of Aerospace culture and experience with Engineering & Technology Group (ETG).
