Job Overview

The role of a Construction Estimator is crucial in ensuring the success of our projects at Hickory Construction, Inc. This position involves the assessment of potential costs and benefits associated with construction endeavors by gathering and evaluating data based on various relevant factors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and evaluate vendors and contractors for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Engage with clients, vendors, and team members to develop estimates and address any challenges.
  • Examine blueprints and other documentation to formulate time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and subcontractors to adjust cost estimates as necessary.
  • Gather historical cost data to inform current and future project estimates.
  • Create detailed take-offs and matrices for project assessments.
  • Prepare estimates for management to aid in planning, organizing, and scheduling tasks.
  • Generate estimates for vendor or subcontractor selection processes.
  • Establish cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Maintain a comprehensive directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Possess a strong understanding of market labor conditions and their impact on construction costs.

Qualifications, Skills & Education:

  • In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams in a dynamic and urgent environment.
  • Proficient in interpreting construction drawings and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with contracts, subcontract documents, specifications, and local regulations.
  • Experience in both commercial and residential construction projects, including new builds and complex renovations.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and negotiation processes.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong mathematical abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Procore.
