Job Overview

The role of the Estimator is vital in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects at Hickory Construction, Inc. This position involves the meticulous calculation of potential costs and profits associated with various construction endeavors by gathering and assessing relevant data based on a range of significant variables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and engage vendors and contractors for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and team members to discuss estimates and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Examine blueprints and documentation to prepare comprehensive time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Consult with engineers, architects, and subcontractors regarding modifications and adjustments to cost projections.
  • Gather historical cost data to inform estimates for current and future projects.
  • Create detailed take-offs and matrices for project analysis.
  • Develop estimates for management use in planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Prepare estimates to assist in the selection of vendors or subcontractors.
  • Establish cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Maintain an updated directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Stay informed about market labor and commodity conditions that affect construction costs.

Qualifications, Skills & Education:

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a dynamic and urgent environment.
  • Proficient in interpreting construction drawings and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with contracts, subcontract documents, and local codes.
  • Experience in both commercial and residential construction projects, including new builds and complex renovations.
  • Background in construction contracts and negotiation processes.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Exceptional analytical and negotiation capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Robust mathematical abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Procore software.
