REEF Support Teacher

Job Summary:

Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Support Staff for our aftercare program, REEF. As a Support Staff, you will play a vital role in facilitating and fostering the intellectual development of our students, interacting with children on a daily basis, and cultivating trusting relationships with families and teachers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and assist in the coordination of before and aftercare programs for assigned classrooms.
  • Proactively support the success of daily activities planned by Lead Teachers.
  • Lead classroom activities several times per week.
  • Monitor student behavior for growth, progress, and opportunities to reward.
  • Consult with parents and share the good news.
  • Help students get the most out of each planned activity through positivity and encouragement.
  • Making education fun.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to help engage and educate students.
  • Facilitating and leading activities created by lead teachers in their absence and consulting with REEF Team Lead or Manager to resolve questions and/or concerns.
  • Anticipating the needs of teachers and students so that activities run as smoothly as possible.
  • Working cooperatively with team members to meet goals and objectives.
  • Supervise and ensure students' safety during aftercare activities on campus and on field trips if necessary.
  • Ensure that students are fully engaged in REEF classes each period.
  • Help supervise transition periods between classes and group play.
  • Help supervise students on monthly field trips. Ensure students transition safely to and from field trips.
  • Support Lead Teachers in ensuring that all areas used during REEF programs are clean and materials are put away on a daily basis.
  • Ensure that Lead Teachers have proper materials for their classes each day.
  • Assist with other REEF operation efforts as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Warm and friendly personality; ability to relate well to children and staff.
  • Experience and knowledge with before-and-aftercare program administration is a plus.
  • Must have basic technology skills, e.g. Google Suite, especially GMail. Experience with Mac preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter with sound time management skills, ability to work with little supervision, pro-active problem-solving and crisis management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills and strong motivational skills.

Working Environment:

The role is based on-site and will grow to include another campus, which will result in interaction with students, parents and staff.
