POSITION SUMMARY

The Housing Support Specialist plays a crucial role in identifying appropriate housing solutions for program participants and their families, facilitating their journey towards sustainable and healthy independent living. This position involves community outreach to cultivate resources that assist homeless individuals. As a key member of the service team, the Housing Support Specialist provides leadership grounded in experience and engages in all phases of client service: assessment, service planning, engagement, and implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and secure housing options for homeless clients and their families, including referrals to available shelters as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive housing database that connects tenants with available apartments.
  • Engage with landlords to educate them about the program and the specific needs of participants.
  • Lead community outreach initiatives, representing the organization at relevant meetings and working groups focused on housing solutions for the homeless.
  • Establish support systems tailored to meet individual client housing needs; coordinate move-in activities, rental negotiations, and necessary service referrals.
  • Facilitate access to community resources to assist both tenants and landlords in addressing potential eviction issues.
  • As part of the case management team, provide information referrals, crisis intervention, and support for permanent housing placements.
  • Assist case managers in conducting thorough screenings and assessments to gather essential information for developing Individual Service Plans.
  • Coordinate follow-up services in collaboration with the case management team.
  • Perform duties of Case Manager or Housing Specialist as required.
  • Conduct outreach to the homeless population, coordinating efforts with community organizations to enhance service delivery.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, and verification of employment and education.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or a related field, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience (four years).

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of three years of experience working with veterans, individuals in recovery, or those experiencing homelessness.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish).
  • Familiarity with HMIS (Homeless Management Information System).
