Position Overview

Salary: $32.69 per hour

The Social Justice Learning Institute is committed to enhancing the educational, health, and overall well-being of youth of color. Our mission is to empower these individuals to take charge of their educational journeys by utilizing research as a catalyst for community and social transformation. We provide students with the tools to investigate issues within their communities through a comprehensive yearlong curriculum, alongside essential academic support such as tutoring, homework assistance, and college preparatory education.

As the Academic and Career Services Coordinator (ACSC), you will play a pivotal role in cultivating meaningful relationships with students, guiding them in setting and achieving their personal and academic objectives. A primary focus of this role is to assist students in graduating from high school and navigating their pathways to college or career opportunities. The ACSC will work closely with students on skill development, college application processes, and referrals for both personal and academic support.

The ACSC is an integral member of the program team responsible for executing the Young Men's Program. This team comprises the Program and Curriculum Coach, the Teacher-of-Record, school administrators, and support from SJLI's Educational Equity Programs leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Coaching:
    • Participate in curriculum and program training sessions.
    • Deliver YMP curriculum as needed.
    • Lead lessons focused on college and career readiness throughout the academic year.
    • Collaborate with students to create individualized academic plans and monitor their progress.
    • Guide students through financial aid processes and college/trade school applications.
  • Student Support and Relationship Building:
    • Establish and nurture relationships with students.
    • Facilitate discussions among students, counselors, teachers, and parents.
    • Support academic intervention initiatives.
    • Collaborate with on-campus staff and administrators to enhance student support.
    • Organize college trips, program activities, and retreats.
    • Connect students with SAT/ACT preparation resources.
    • Provide guidance on UC, CSU, HBCU/Private Universities, and community college applications.
    • Conduct college application workshops and assist seniors with their applications.
    • Maintain strong relationships with school counselors.
  • Data Management:
    • Utilize SJLI's online database effectively.
    • Collect and input student data from various sources.
    • Track and manage data efficiently.
    • Generate site data reports and monthly summaries.
