POSITION SUMMARY

The Recovery Support Specialist I plays a crucial role in providing peer support services to individuals engaged in substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health treatment across various program levels, including inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. These support services encompass educational sessions, motivational coaching, patient engagement, transportation assistance, supervision, advocacy, and coordination of essential services aimed at fostering recovery, resilience, and self-sufficiency.

Hourly Rate: $28 / Hour DOE

WORK SCHEDULE

Outpatient services require 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week, with flexible scheduling available, operating 24/7.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct orientation for new patients, including facility tours and distribution of essential materials.
  2. Assist with data entry for patient admissions and discharges as required.
  3. Monitor and supervise patient activities to ensure safety and accountability.
  4. Perform searches of patients and their belongings in accordance with established policies.
  5. Administer urine analysis testing as per protocol and maintain necessary certifications.
  6. Manage medication distribution in inpatient and residential settings.
  7. Oversee cleanliness and orderliness of the unit, encouraging patient participation in maintaining their environment.
  8. Collaborate with the treatment team to integrate health services across various domains.
  9. Promote patient engagement and self-management strategies to enhance wellness and recovery.
  10. Equip patients with coping strategies and problem-solving tools to manage their behavioral health needs.
  11. Support patients in recognizing and building upon their strengths and resilience.
  12. Facilitate the development of community living skills and resource utilization.
  13. Participate in required training and professional development activities.
  14. Communicate effectively with team members regarding patient progress and activities.
  15. Maintain professionalism in conduct, appearance, and communication.
  16. Demonstrate understanding and support for the agency's mission and objectives.
  17. Conduct safety checks during shift changes.
  18. Provide transportation for patients to various activities and appointments as needed.
  19. Offer ongoing recovery support in areas such as 12-step programs, housing, and vocational training.
  20. Uphold patient confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and federal regulations.
  21. Encourage independent decision-making among patients.
  22. Exhibit consistency in support during both routine and challenging times.
  23. Assist patients in overcoming negative self-perceptions and fears.
  24. Serve as a role model for wellness and recovery through mutual peer support.
  25. Adhere to ethical standards and respect patient rights.
  26. Share personal recovery experiences in a manner that inspires hope while maintaining professional boundaries.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class C or Class B driver's license (if required)
  • Proficient in computer usage
  • Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (PSSC)
  • At least 1 year of experience in behavioral healthcare or peer support services.
