Location/Division Specific Information
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Manufacturing & Distribution team, which is committed to ensuring our customers receive the essential products needed to achieve their scientific objectives swiftly, reliably, and safely.
This role, reporting to the Process Engineering leader, encompasses responsibilities related to the design, implementation, and documentation of validation engineering activities, as well as the development and enhancement of processes aimed at boosting productivity, capacity, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.

We are in search of a Senior Automation Systems Engineer who will be responsible for designing, documenting, and testing enhancements to both existing and new equipment tailored for clean room manufacturing applications.
A Day in the Life:
Design, document, assemble, and test modifications to current equipment, troubleshoot and qualify new electro-mechanical systems, control panels, and control systems.
Lead and support local design/build machines and may involve minor remote project participation at vendor sites responsible for design/build.
Potential involvement in robot programming.
Understand, initialize, design, troubleshoot, and repair AC and DC drives and controllers.
Possess the ability to program PID control logic.
Develop electrical power and control systems that comply with EMI and electrical safety standards, overseeing compliance testing. Address problem-solving needs for current and new designs to meet compliance requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge in designing panels to meet EMC emission standards.
Develop, design, and test automation systems ranging from simple to complex for OEM manufacturing.
Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers as necessary for the mechanical integration of electrical assemblies (e.g., cabinetry, instrumentation, enclosure design, etc.) to complete projects and tasks.
Document schematics, panel layout drawings, BOMs, ROHS documentation, UL, ETL, CE certificates of compliance, and CE technical files.
Be accountable for assigned project deliverables, ensuring product quality and adherence to schedules.
Monitor progress and review project tasks to ensure deadlines are met appropriately.
Evaluate project challenges and identify solutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer objectives.
Proactively communicate project status, issues, and risks to the project team and management.
Oversee the review of product design engineering for compliance with engineering principles, organizational standards, and related user requirement specifications.
Work collaboratively with Operations to ensure a smooth and successful transition of engineering projects into production.
Foster an environment where continuous improvement is integral to the culture.
Willingness to travel as necessary to customer and vendor locations.
Required Education / Experience
M.S.E.E. with 3 years of experience in automation development, system integration, and commercialization design as an electrical engineer; OR B.S.E.E. with 5 years of similar experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of advanced automation systems
- Proficient in PLC and HMI programming (RS Logix and FactoryTalk)
- Ability to create P&ID designs and documentation
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Capacity to adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in configuring Ethernet networks and devices
- Ability to create, read, and understand electrical schematics and manufacturing drawings
- Competent in writing user manuals and maintenance procedures
- Proficient in creating and modifying CAD drawings
- Experienced in managing BOMs and adhering to UL and CE standards, as well as ROHS, REACH, and WEEE environmental initiatives
- Familiar with NEC standards as outlined in NFPA70
- Comfortable working on both short-term and long-term projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced or additional degree in a related field
- Experience in instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks Electrical
- Familiarity with SolidWorks EPDM
- Knowledge of NEC standards in NFPA70 and NFPA79
- Preferred experience in Fanuc robot programming
- Additional experience with industrial automation software and distributed control systems
- Experience with qualification protocol generation and execution
- Understanding of cGMP and GAMP
