Veterinary Technician - Critical Care (Overnight)

We are currently in search of a dedicated and skilled individual to join our Critical Care team as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant.

Role Overview:
Our Critical Care team is responsible for delivering specialized care and treatment to hospitalized patients who require intensive monitoring. We manage a wide variety of cases, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and respiratory emergencies, immune-mediated diseases, and heart failure. Our critical care technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our patients through both basic care and advanced procedures, such as oxygen therapy, total parenteral nutrition, and blood transfusions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and triage incoming patients.
  • Document patient histories and SOAP notes.
  • Provide nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring ongoing evaluation and monitoring.
  • Exhibit proficiency in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs).
  • Conduct in-house laboratory tests.
  • Skillfully place intravenous (IV) catheters.
  • Perform thorough and accurate patient rounds.
  • Safely restrain anxious and fractious patients.
  • Measure and record temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) and maintain medical records.
  • Identify situations that require immediate veterinarian intervention.
  • Advocate for both patients and their owners.
Essential Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • Clinical experience in the veterinary field as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or three consecutive years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both staff and clients, demonstrating professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations for drug dosages, CRIs, and related tasks.
  • Must hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held).
Work Schedule:
  • Full Time.
  • 4/10 schedule.
  • Flexibility required, including some holidays and weekends.
  • Overnight shift with a $5 differential.
