We are in search of a skilled and enthusiastic individual to become a vital part of our Critical Care team as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant.
Role Overview:
Our Critical Care unit delivers specialized, continuous care for hospitalized patients needing intensive monitoring. We manage a variety of cases, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and respiratory emergencies, as well as immune-mediated diseases and cardiac failures. Our critical care technicians are essential in ensuring the well-being of our patients through both basic care and advanced medical procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and prioritize incoming patients
- Document patient histories and SOAP notes
- Provide nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring ongoing evaluation and monitoring
- Exhibit proficiency in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
- Conduct in-house laboratory tests
- Skillfully place intravenous (IV) catheters
- Perform thorough patient rounds
- Safely manage fractious and anxious patients
- Measure and record temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) and maintain accurate medical records
- Identify situations requiring immediate veterinary intervention
- Advocate for both the patient and their owner
- High school diploma
- Clinical experience in veterinary care as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or 3 years of consecutive experience as a Veterinary Assistant in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations related to drug dosages, CRIs, and client billing
- Must hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of employment (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
- Full Time
- 4/10 schedule
- Flexibility required, including some holidays and weekends
- Overnight shift with a $5 differential
- Hiring bonus of up to $5,000 for new full-time employees
