Veterinary Technician - Critical Care (Overnight)

About Ethos Veterinary Health:

We are in search of a skilled and enthusiastic individual to become a vital part of our Critical Care team as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant.

Role Overview:
Our Critical Care unit delivers specialized, continuous care for hospitalized patients needing intensive monitoring. We manage a variety of cases, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and respiratory emergencies, as well as immune-mediated diseases and cardiac failures. Our critical care technicians are essential in ensuring the well-being of our patients through both basic care and advanced medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and prioritize incoming patients
  • Document patient histories and SOAP notes
  • Provide nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring ongoing evaluation and monitoring
  • Exhibit proficiency in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
  • Conduct in-house laboratory tests
  • Skillfully place intravenous (IV) catheters
  • Perform thorough patient rounds
  • Safely manage fractious and anxious patients
  • Measure and record temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) and maintain accurate medical records
  • Identify situations requiring immediate veterinary intervention
  • Advocate for both the patient and their owner
Essential Qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • Clinical experience in veterinary care as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or 3 years of consecutive experience as a Veterinary Assistant in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations related to drug dosages, CRIs, and client billing
  • Must hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of employment (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
Work Schedule:
  • Full Time
  • 4/10 schedule
  • Flexibility required, including some holidays and weekends
  • Overnight shift with a $5 differential
