Veterinary Technician - Critical Care - Overnight Shift

We are in search of a dedicated and skilled individual to become a vital part of our Critical Care team as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant.

Role Overview:
Our Critical Care team provides 24/7 specialized treatment and monitoring for hospitalized patients in need of intensive care. We manage a variety of cases, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and respiratory emergencies, immune-mediated disorders, and cardiac failures. Our critical care technicians are essential in ensuring the well-being of our patients through both basic care and advanced procedures such as oxygen therapy, total parenteral nutrition, and blood transfusions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and prioritize incoming patients
  • Document patient histories and SOAP notes
  • Deliver nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring ongoing evaluation and monitoring
  • Exhibit proficiency in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
  • Conduct in-house laboratory tests
  • Skillfully place intravenous (IV) catheters
  • Perform thorough and accurate patient rounds
  • Safely manage fractious and anxious patients
  • Measure and record temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) while maintaining medical documentation
  • Identify situations that require immediate veterinary intervention
  • Advocate for both patients and their owners
Essential Qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • Clinical experience in the veterinary field as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or 3 consecutive years of Veterinary Assistant experience in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both staff and clients, demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations for medication dosages, CRIs, and client invoices
  • Must hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer into the role (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
Work Schedule:
  • Full Time
  • 4/10 schedule
  • Flexibility required, including some holidays or weekends
  • Overnight shift with a $5 differential
