We address a wide array of medical emergencies, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and respiratory crises, as well as immune-mediated disorders and cardiac failures. Our skilled critical care team is essential in ensuring the well-being of our patients through various levels of care, from basic support to advanced medical interventions such as oxygen therapy and blood transfusions.
Position Overview:
As a vital member of our team, you will assist in the care and treatment of critically ill or injured animals, ensuring they receive the highest standard of veterinary care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Triage and admit emergency cases efficiently
- Provide nursing care to critically ill or injured patients, ensuring ongoing evaluation and monitoring
- Exhibit proficiency in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
- Conduct in-house laboratory procedures with accuracy
- Skillfully place intravenous (IV) catheters
- Perform thorough and detailed patient rounds
- Safely restrain fractious and anxious patients
- Obtain and record temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) measurements
- Identify situations that require immediate veterinary intervention
- Advocate for both the patient and their owner
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of clinical experience in the veterinary field as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or 3 consecutive years of Veterinary Assistant experience in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit (ER/CCU) environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both staff and clients, demonstrating professionalism and discretion
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations for drug dosages, CRIs, and client invoicing
- Must hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer into the role (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
- Full-time position
- 4/10 work schedule
- Flexibility required, including availability on holidays
- $40.00 hourly plus shift differentials.
