Position: Overnight Veterinary Technician - Critical Care

Company Overview:

We are currently looking for a dedicated and skilled individual to become a part of our Critical Care team as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant.

Role Overview:
Our Critical Care team is responsible for delivering continuous specialized care and treatment to hospitalized patients that require intensive monitoring. We manage a wide array of cases, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, and respiratory emergencies, immune-mediated disorders, and cardiac failures. Our critical care technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our patients through both basic care and advanced medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessing and prioritizing incoming patients
  • Documenting patient histories and SOAP notes
  • Providing nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring ongoing evaluation and monitoring
  • Demonstrating expertise in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
  • Conducting in-house laboratory tests
  • Skillfully placing intravenous (IV) catheters
  • Performing thorough patient rounds
  • Safely restraining anxious and fractious patients
  • Taking temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) measurements and maintaining accurate medical records
  • Identifying situations that require immediate veterinary attention
  • Advocating for both patients and their owners
Essential Qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • Clinical experience in the veterinary field as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or 3 consecutive years of Veterinary Assistant experience in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients, demonstrating professionalism and discretion
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations for medication dosages, CRIs, and client invoices
  • Must hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
Work Schedule:
  • Full Time
  • 4/10 schedule
  • Flexibility required, including some holidays or weekends
  • Overnight shift with a $5 differential
