Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Critical Care team. As a key member of our team, you will provide specialized care and treatment to hospitalized patients requiring intensive monitoring. Your expertise and compassion will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our patients and their owners.
Key Responsibilities- Triage and assess incoming patients to determine the level of care required
- Record patient histories and SOAP notes to ensure accurate and comprehensive care
- Provide nursing care to critically ill patients, including monitoring and evaluation
- Perform advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs) as needed
- Conduct in-house laboratory procedures to support patient care
- Place intravenous (IV) catheters and administer medications as prescribed
- Conduct accurate and detailed patient rounds to ensure timely and effective care
- Safely restrain fractious and frightened patients to minimize stress and anxiety
- Obtain temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) measurements and maintain accurate medical records
- Recognize situations requiring immediate attention from a veterinarian and take appropriate action
- Act as an advocate for both the patient and the client, providing clear and compassionate communication
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Clinical experience in the veterinary industry as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or 3 consecutive years of Veterinary Assistant experience in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit setting
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients, demonstrating tact, patience, and professional courtesy while maintaining confidentiality and discretion
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices, estimates, and other related calculations
- Hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer into the role (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
- Full-time position
- 4/10 schedule
- Flexibility required, including some holidays or weekends
- Overnight shift with $5 paid differential
- Hiring bonus of up to $5,000 for new, full-time employees
