Recreation Program Educator

RECREATION PROGRAM EDUCATOR
Under the general oversight of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Program Educator is tasked with delivering a diverse range of classes tailored for various age groups at a recreational facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, organizes, and instructs recreational classes catering to a broad spectrum of age demographics.
- Facilitates activities and oversees the proper use of equipment.
- Monitors participants during classes to ensure safety and engagement.
- Sets up and dismantles program equipment as needed.
- Participates in regular staff meetings and necessary training sessions.
- Completes administrative duties, including lesson planning, incident reporting, and maintaining accurate attendance records.
- Enforces facility rules and regulations to prevent accidents and maintain control over participants.
- Regularly communicates with the Recreation Supervisor regarding schedule adjustments and program updates.
- Engages positively and effectively with participants, parents, and colleagues.
- Adheres to both verbal and written instructions.
- Collaborates harmoniously with team members and the community.
- Performs physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 30 lbs; walking, standing, stooping, and crouching for extended periods; and climbing ladders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to: Understand and follow both oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in English; work collaboratively with colleagues and the public; articulate thoughts clearly and concisely; organize and lead groups of varying sizes; teach skills proficiently and uphold all District policies; supervise activities to prevent accidents; administer first aid; inspect and maintain facilities and equipment; make swift and accurate decisions; foster positive relationships with the public and staff; represent the District professionally.
Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in communication, public relations, and leadership strategies; experienced in working with both youth and adults in the relevant field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be capable of performing physical labor, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy objects, walking, standing, stooping, and crouching for extended durations; and climbing ladders. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience is necessary, with three years of participation and two years of teaching experience preferred in the relevant area.
CERTIFICATIONS
Must obtain the American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate or be willing to enroll in a course to acquire the certification.
WORK HOURS
Approximately 8 – 10 hours per week, depending on program needs.
COMPENSATION
70% of participant registration fees.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS
Part-time; Non-Exempt.
