Job Summary

**Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District** is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Leader to join our team. As a Recreation Leader, you will be responsible for leading daily activity groups, providing enrichment and recreational activities for students, and maintaining a safe and engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily activity groups and ensure participant engagement at all times.
  • Inventory and maintain program equipment, supplies, and storage areas.
  • Prepare the room or space for program each day and have all necessary supplies ready for activities.
  • Distribute snacks and assist with concessions.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete reports as necessary in a timely manner.
  • Be familiar with and uphold behavior policies and safety procedures for all activities.
  • Attend all staff meetings, training, and workshops.
  • Notify and report any problems or concerns of parents and/or children to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Market the program at schools and special events, and help to recruit participants.
  • Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to work with individuals or groups of children from ages 5 years old and older.
  • Basic knowledge of children's games and recreation activities.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lead physical, recreational, and leisure activities.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and constructively contribute to a collaborative team.
Physical Requirements

The Recreation Leader must be able to perform the following physical demands:

  • Strength, mobility, stamina to bend, stretch, stand, kneel, walk, stoop, lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Education and Experience

The ideal candidate must be at least 17 years old and have previous experience working with children (volunteer work, babysitting, etc.). A basic understanding of elementary math and language is also required. Fluency in English is necessary, with Spanish skills a plus.

Work Schedule and Pay Rate

The Recreation Leader will work 10-20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that may include Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm. Modified hours for training and other meetings may be necessary.
