Job Summary:

The Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Guide Trainee to join our team at the California State Capitol Museum. As a Guide Trainee, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in providing exceptional visitor experiences, while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guided tours to visitors, including school groups, adult groups, and legislative guests and dignitaries.
  • Develop and conduct your own guided tours, showcasing the history and significance of the California State Capitol.
  • Monitor and check-in school groups, and function as a rover, providing information to the general public or assisting other staff members.
  • Work collaboratively with the Guide II, Historical Monument, Supervisors to ensure seamless delivery of visitor services.
  • Participate in special events, such as reenactments, festivals, and educational programs.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class C driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift, climb stairs, and sit/stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk distances on uneven surfaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in customer service, education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of California history, government, and culture.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
