About Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District: We are dedicated to creating vibrant community spaces that promote health and wellness through recreational activities. Our mission is to enrich the lives of residents by providing accessible parks and engaging programs.
Role Summary: Under the guidance of the Recreation Coordinator and Supervisor, the Recreation Coach will plan, lead, and oversee various recreational activities. Collaboration with fellow staff, school district personnel, and other stakeholders is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for participants. This role is seasonal in nature.
Program Responsibilities: Work will take place in both indoor and outdoor settings at public parks and school sites. The primary focus will be on coaching teams, with additional responsibilities that may include officiating games, managing the scoreboard, and maintaining the scorebook as necessary. Flexibility in scheduling is required, with evening and weekend commitments expected.
Key Duties:
- Instruct, inspire, and lead youth participants throughout the program.
- Deliver engaging curriculum in a safe, energetic, and structured manner.
- Maintain punctuality and professionalism by adhering to uniform standards.
- Stay informed and communicate effectively with supervisors.
- Foster relationships with participants to enhance their experience in sports activities.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by conducting activities responsibly.
- Complete tasks as assigned by the Supervisor and Coordinator.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow coaches and program directors.
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with children and adolescents aged 7-14.
- Exhibit maturity, sound judgment, and a friendly demeanor.
- Ability to remain active for extended periods (3-6 hours).
- Willingness to work in diverse weather conditions.
- Capability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Effective collaboration with colleagues of varying ages and experience levels.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Completion of a negative TB test.
- Willingness to obtain CPR/First-Aid certification.
- Reliable transportation and valid identification.
- Organize and supervise practices and games for various sports, including Volleyball, Flag Football, Basketball, and Track and Field.
- Teach participants the rules, fundamentals, and sportsmanship principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License or dependable transportation.
- Current CPR/First-Aid Certification.
- Knowledge of coaching techniques and officiating methods.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management abilities.
- Experience in a recreational setting, such as coaching or counseling.
- Relevant college coursework in recreation or related fields.
