Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and service-oriented Senior Recreational Therapist/Activities Facilitator who is committed to enhancing the lives of elderly individuals.

This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team led by a primary care provider to ensure holistic and integrated care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement engaging group and individual activities tailored for participants, particularly those with dementia, focusing on sensory stimulation and cognitive engagement.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the activities area, ensuring a welcoming and organized environment.
  • Provide leisure education to participants and caregivers, assisting with activity modifications and skill development for home use.
  • Plan a diverse range of activities, including exercise sessions, arts and crafts, celebrations, recreational games, and community outings.
  • Monitor participant engagement and progress, maintaining accurate documentation of their experiences and behaviors.
  • Develop and distribute a monthly activities calendar to keep participants informed and engaged.
  • Coordinate community outings and special events, managing logistics such as transportation and entertainment.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, reporting any changes in participants' conditions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the activities area, including supply inventory and budgeting.
  • Assess participant involvement in various settings, collaborating with staff from nursing homes and community facilities.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including assessments and service plans, as directed by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide ongoing support to staff involved in dementia programming, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Transport participants as needed and adjust activity spaces to meet their needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards related to the role.
  • Uphold high standards of accuracy in documentation and practice universal precautions to ensure safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a social or recreational program serving elderly populations.
  • Strong knowledge of recreational therapy techniques and the unique needs of older adults.
  • Creative skills to develop and implement varied activities that cater to diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Compassionate and respectful approach towards individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proof of medical clearance and current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Education or training in geriatrics and dementia programming.
