Seasonal Sports Coach Position

Part-time opportunity with flexible hours. Compensation: Stipend ranging from $400 to $500.

About Us: Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District is dedicated to providing exceptional recreational services and enriching community experiences. Our mission is to create vibrant parks and programs that foster healthy lifestyles.

Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, the Sports Coach will plan, execute, and oversee various recreational activities. This role requires collaboration with Mission Oaks staff, school district personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and engaging environment for youth participants. This is a seasonal role.

Program Details: Responsibilities will take place in both indoor and outdoor settings at public parks and school facilities. The primary focus will be coaching volleyball teams, but duties may also include officiating games, managing scoreboards, and maintaining game records as necessary. Schedules for practices and games will vary, with a requirement to work evenings and weekends.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct, motivate, and lead youth participants in a dynamic and structured environment.
  • Maintain punctuality and adhere to uniform standards.
  • Stay informed and communicate effectively with supervisors.
  • Engage with participants to foster a fun and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants during activities.
  • Complete tasks as assigned by the Supervisor and Coordinator.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow coaches and program directors.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for working with children and adolescents aged 7-14.
  • Exhibit maturity, sound judgment, and a friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to remain active for extended periods (3-6 hours).
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Physical capability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse colleagues.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Negative TB test result.
  • Willingness to obtain CPR/First-Aid certification.
  • Reliable transportation and valid identification.
  • Experience in coaching or supervising sports activities, including volleyball, flag football, basketball, and track and field.
  • Ability to teach participants the fundamentals of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License or dependable transportation.
  • Current CPR/First-Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and sports rules.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with staff and participants.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience in recreational settings as a coach or counselor.
  • Relevant college coursework in recreation or related fields.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract, Seasonal

Schedule:

  • Availability on weekdays and weekends.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year in sports coaching (preferred).

  • Various locations within the district.
