Position Overview

Oaks Senior Living, LLC is seeking compassionate and skilled Certified Medication Aides dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors. Role Summary:

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in overseeing caregiver staff during their shifts, ensuring high-quality care for residents while adhering to the residence's philosophy and promoting resident well-being. The CMA is responsible for the accurate administration of medications in compliance with state regulations and company policies. This position also involves delivering personalized care and services, responding effectively to emergencies, and safeguarding residents' rights to safe and confidential treatment.


Essential Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience in a Senior Living environment.
  • Preferred supervisory experience in healthcare or service sectors.
  • Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate.
  • Must hold a Georgia Certified Medication Aide Certificate.
  • Good standing with the Georgia CNA/CMA Registry is required.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
  • Must exhibit a friendly and caring demeanor with a genuine desire to work with older adults.
  • Minimum age of 21 years, with a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Completion of a physical examination by a licensed physician and a negative drug screening.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

Resident Care Services

  • Execute assigned duties efficiently as directed by the Wellness Director or Executive Director. Supervise caregiver staff to ensure quality care aligned with Oaks Senior Living's philosophy.
  • Adhere to each resident's Negotiated Service Plan and promptly report any changes in resident conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Respond immediately to resident calls for assistance.
  • Seek guidance from the Executive Director or Wellness Director if uncertain about medication or treatment tasks.
  • Assist with meal service and oversee caregiver staff in the dining area, ensuring cleanliness post-meal.
  • Prevent infection spread by following standard precautions and disposing of waste appropriately.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with residents and their families.
  • Handle resident emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Help create and maintain caregiver staff schedules that meet resident needs and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Address on-the-job injuries in line with company policies.
  • Complete required continuing education units (CEUs) biennially and annually as specified by the Alliant GMCF Registry.
  • Promote teamwork and exemplify the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for staff to voice concerns or grievances.
  • Keep CPR and First Aid certifications current.

Medication Management

  • Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration: right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, and right documentation. Verify these rights at three critical points: when retrieving the medication, before administration, and after administration.
  • Administer medications according to the Medication Observation Record (MOR) while ensuring resident privacy. Document all medication-related actions accurately and in compliance with Oaks Senior Living policies.
  • Respect residents' rights to refuse medication and ensure their safety during medication administration. Provide clear explanations regarding medications being administered.
  • Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report any issues to the Wellness Director or Executive Director immediately. Report all medication errors transparently and promptly.

Communication Duties

  • Participate in regular staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Effectively communicate residents' needs during shift changes and report any changes in resident conditions or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure all required documentation for resident care is accurate and up-to-date.

Reports To: Wellness Director, Executive Director, and Manager-on-Duty


Physical Requirements:

To meet job demands, employees must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Adherence to proper body mechanics and safety protocols is necessary when assisting or transferring residents. Typical daily physical activities include:

  • Standing or walking for up to eight hours, with up to two hours of sitting.
  • Frequently supporting up to 70 pounds and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds.
  • Regularly kneeling, bending, and reaching, with assistance for resident transfers as needed.
