Position Summary:

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in supervising caregiver staff during their shifts, ensuring high-quality resident care while adhering to the residence's philosophy and prioritizing resident well-being. The CMA is responsible for administering scheduled medications to residents in compliance with state regulations and Oaks Senior Living policies. This role also involves providing personalized care, responding effectively to emergencies, and safeguarding residents' rights to safe and confidential treatment.


Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience in a Senior Living environment.
  • Preferred supervisory experience in healthcare or service industries.
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant is required.
  • Georgia Certified Medication Aide Certificate is mandatory.
  • Must maintain good standing with the Georgia CNA/CMA Registry.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • A friendly and caring demeanor with a genuine desire to work with older adults.
  • Minimum age of 21 years and a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Completion of a physical examination by a licensed physician and a negative drug screening.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Resident Services

  • Execute all assigned duties effectively as directed by the Wellness Director or Executive Director. Supervise caregiver staff to ensure quality care and meet residents' needs according to Oaks Senior Living policies.
  • Follow each resident's Negotiated Service Plan and report any changes in resident condition to the appropriate personnel.
  • Respond promptly to resident calls for assistance.
  • Seek guidance from the Executive Director or Wellness Director when uncertain about medication or treatment procedures.
  • Assist with meal service and oversee caregiver staff in the dining area, ensuring cleanliness post-meal.
  • Prevent infection spread by adhering to standard precautions and disposing of waste appropriately.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents and their families.
  • Handle resident emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Help develop and maintain caregiver staff schedules that adequately meet resident needs.
  • Address on-the-job injuries following Oaks Senior Living policies.
  • Complete required continuing education units (CEUs) biennially and annually as specified by the Alliant GMCF Registry.
  • Encourage teamwork and exemplify the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for employees to discuss concerns or grievances.
  • Keep CPR and First Aid certifications current.

Medication Administration

  • Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration: right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, and right documentation at all times. Verify these rights at three critical points: when retrieving the medication, before administration, and after administration.
  • Administer medications in accordance with the Medication Observation Record (MOR) while ensuring resident privacy. Document all medication-related actions accurately and in compliance with Oaks Senior Living policies.
  • Respect residents' rights to refuse medication or treatment and ensure their safety during medication administration.
  • Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report any concerns immediately.

Communication

  • Participate in regular staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Effectively communicate residents' needs during shift changes and report any changes in resident conditions or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork for resident care is completed and current.

Reports to: Wellness Director, Executive Director, and Manager-on-Duty


Physical Job Requirements

To meet job demands, employees must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Key physical requirements include:

  • Standing or walking for up to eight hours a day and sitting for up to two hours.
  • Frequently supporting up to 70 pounds and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds.
  • Regularly kneeling, bending, and reaching, with assistance for resident transfers as needed.
