Position Summary:

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in supervising caregiver staff during their shifts, ensuring high-quality care for residents while adhering to our residence philosophy. The CMA is responsible for administering medications in compliance with state regulations and company policies, providing personalized care, and responding effectively to emergencies while safeguarding residents' rights to safe and confidential treatment.


Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience in a Senior Living environment.
  • Preferred supervisory experience in healthcare or a related service industry.
  • Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate.
  • Must hold a Georgia Certified Medication Aide Certificate.
  • Good standing with the Georgia CNA/CMA Registry is required.
  • Proficient in English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Must have a friendly and caring demeanor with a desire to work with older adults.
  • Minimum age of 21 years; satisfactory criminal history check is necessary.
  • Physical examination by a licensed physician and a negative drug screen are required.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

Resident Care Services

  • Execute assigned duties effectively as directed by the Wellness Director or Executive Director, supervising caregiver staff to ensure quality care aligned with our philosophy.
  • Follow each resident's Negotiated Service Plan and report any changes in condition to the appropriate personnel.
  • Respond promptly to resident calls for assistance.
  • Seek guidance from the Executive Director or Wellness Director when uncertain about medication or treatment tasks.
  • Assist with meal service and supervise caregiver staff in the dining area, ensuring cleanliness post-meal.
  • Maintain infection control by adhering to standard precautions and proper waste disposal protocols.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents and their families.
  • Handle resident emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Help develop and maintain caregiver staff schedules to meet resident needs.
  • Address on-the-job injuries following company policies.
  • Complete required continuing education units (CEUs) biennially and annually as specified.
  • Encourage teamwork and exemplify the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for employee concerns and grievances.
  • Keep CPR and First Aid certifications current.

Medication Management

  • Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration consistently: right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, and right documentation.
  • Administer medications according to the Medication Observation Record (MOR) while ensuring resident privacy, and document all relevant actions accurately.
  • Respect residents' rights to refuse medication and ensure their safety during administration.
  • Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report findings immediately.

Communication

  • Participate in regular staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Effectively communicate residents' needs during shift changes and report any significant changes in condition or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure all required documentation for resident care is completed and current.

Reports to: Wellness Director, Executive Director, and Manager-on-Duty


Physical Requirements:

To meet job demands, employees must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Employees should follow proper body mechanics and safety protocols when assisting or transferring residents. Typical daily physical requirements include:

  • Standing or walking for up to eight hours; sitting for up to two hours.
  • Frequently supporting up to 70 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 15 pounds.
  • Regularly kneeling, bending, and reaching, with assistance for resident transfers as needed.
