Research Lab Overview:
This research laboratory supports Anatomic Pathology faculty in conducting studies on human tissue samples, employing techniques such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and tissue microarray analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
The Advanced Life Sciences Research Specialist will:
- Independently execute segments of research projects, providing insights on experimental design and research direction to principal investigators.
- Conduct complex laboratory experiments to collect data for significant research initiatives.
- Analyze and interpret results, often in situations with limited guidelines, and modify existing procedures as necessary.
- Develop new research protocols when existing literature lacks appropriate descriptions or when adaptations of standard procedures are required.
- Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams across various faculties or schools.
- Stay updated with ongoing literature to integrate new procedures into current research and develop new protocols.
- Manage supply and equipment budgets under the guidance of the principal investigator or business manager.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in collaboration with the health and safety department.
- Supervise staff or students informally or formally, providing guidance on techniques and project work.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, including maintenance, inventory management, and general lab support.
Qualifications:
- Experience with histologic and immunohistologic methods, particularly with sensitive tumor samples and tissue processing techniques.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field and two years of pertinent work experience, or a Master's degree in a related field.
Skills Required:
- In-depth understanding of scientific principles.
- Proficiency in computer applications and databases.
- Strong analytical abilities and sound judgment.
- Capacity to maintain detailed experimental records.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
