About NPPN
NPPN is dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of organizations serving youth in the Detroit area, aiming to maximize their influence on young individuals and advocate for equitable access to high-quality youth development opportunities. Our vision is to connect all youth in the Detroit region with exceptional developmental resources that empower them to succeed academically and personally.
NPPN provides support to numerous youth development organizations in Detroit through a comprehensive approach that includes quality enhancement, networking, advocacy, and professional learning, thereby enhancing the skills and capabilities of youth service providers. Our initiatives aim to bolster both individual and collective impacts on youth by equipping providers with essential tools to elevate program quality and achieve measurable outcomes.

Position Summary
The Chief Executive Officer's primary responsibility is to guide team members in effectively executing NPPN's mission and to cultivate trust within the Out of School Time (OST) network to realize our shared vision. The CEO will lead the organization's team, programs, and strategic initiatives. Key responsibilities include program innovation, network development, ongoing quality enhancement, fundraising, and communication strategies. This role operates under a hybrid model.
Performance and Character Expectations
NPPN seeks a visionary leader capable of fostering an environment of inclusion and empowerment within the organization and throughout the OST network. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of how to build trust, prioritize marginalized communities, utilize data for informed decision-making, and effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders. While experience in youth development is preferred, it is not mandatory. Our next CEO will demonstrate a successful history of mobilizing diverse groups around a common vision, establishing and nurturing human-centered organizations, and a commitment to enhancing the OST sector.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership Vision: Inspire staff and network partners to collectively achieve the organization's vision and mission, act as the public representative and spokesperson for the NPPN network, and infuse new ideas and energy into the team and partners.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with key stakeholders to lead the strategic planning process and oversee the implementation of the strategic plan.
Governance: Develop a governance strategy for NPPN in collaboration with stakeholders, including a plan for establishing an advisory board and governance framework.
Administrative Duties:
Partnership Development: Cultivate and maintain transformative relationships with institutional partners (e.g., local government, educational institutions).
Staff Support: Supervise all staff and contracted personnel, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to achieve the organization's strategic objectives; facilitate staff meetings and promote professional development.
Program Goals: Assist the team in formulating annual programmatic goals and objectives, oversee program implementation, and lead engagement sessions with relevant network partners.
Network Building and Quality Improvement: Lead the selection of assessment tools for the network; nurture a community of practice that fosters continuous quality improvement for OST programs; guide a cohort of quality coaches and trainers to enhance professional development delivery.
Data Management: Serve as the primary contact for NPPN's data-driven learning community and program quality initiatives.
Fundraising and Financial Oversight: Secure funding to meet budgetary needs, build relationships with funders, coordinate grant writing and reporting, and manage financial statements and project expenditures.
Operational Goals: Establish annual operational goals and objectives; manage contract implementation to meet these goals; lead engagement sessions with network partners.
Communications Strategy: Develop and implement NPPN's branding and communication strategy, including website management and social media oversight.
Continuous Quality Improvement: Lead internal quality improvement initiatives; ensure data integrity and manage data analysis; generate reports for stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities:
Other duties as necessary to support the organization's success.
Supervisory Role:
This position oversees all NPPN staff and contracted personnel.
Work Environment:
This role operates in an office setting and routinely utilizes standard office equipment.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here represent those necessary to perform the essential functions of this job. While performing these duties, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Schedule:
The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, with a standard full-time commitment. Travel may be required as needed.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
The CEO must be fully committed to NPPN's mission. Candidates should possess proven leadership, youth development, coaching, data analysis, research, and relationship management experience.
Specific qualifications include:
- A minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit management, preferably in a senior leadership role; a demonstrated ability to lead systemic efforts to enhance performance and outcomes in youth development organizations.
- A strong commitment to equity, focusing on historically marginalized communities, high-quality programming, and continuous improvement.
- Excellence in organizational management, fostering a culture of belonging and wellness, coaching staff, and managing high-performance teams.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and cultivating relationships with board members.
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
- An action-oriented, innovative approach to organizational planning.
