POSITION SUMMARY:


The Vice President of Medicine oversees the operational activities of the Henry Ford Medical Group (HFMG) related to outpatient clinics, research initiatives, educational programs, and inpatient services.

This role is pivotal in directing the formulation and management of financial and operational strategies, including budget creation and business plan evaluations.

The Vice President of Medicine serves as a representative for the departments and/or HFMG on various internal and external committees, while also supporting the organization by leading and executing diverse business unit initiatives.

Furthermore, this position is responsible for managing all facets of the Medical Specialties within the Department of Medicine.

The scope of these responsibilities encompasses over 400 senior staff physicians, 900 support personnel, 300 resident and fellow trainees, with more than $50 million in annual research funding and over $1 billion in projected annual revenues.

This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Henry Ford Medical Group and acts as a collaborative partner to the Chair of the Internal Medicine Program.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively supports the mission and vision of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS).

Exhibits and encourages others to demonstrate professional conduct aligned with the HFHS mission, vision, and values.

Handles personnel functions such as interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as necessary.

Manages budgetary objectives for efficient operations; evaluates financial performance and implements corrective measures. Responsible for the execution of workgroup business plans and objectives.

Provides ongoing oversight and coordination for operational workgroups.
Engages in projects as assigned by area, workgroup, and business unit. Integrates operations with other workgroups or business unit areas.

Identifies industry trends that may present opportunities for business development, product line expansion, and collaborative ventures.

Ensures adherence to all regulatory agencies governing healthcare services and compliance with accrediting bodies. Ensures alignment with all internal HFHS compliance standards.
Coordinates activities essential for optimizing clinical, financial, and satisfaction outcomes.
Accountable for strategic growth, programmatic development, and transformative care delivery.
Oversees daily business operations to drive change (metrics, physician productivity). Builds strong communication and relationships with physicians and faculty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Extensive leadership experience (10 or more years) that aligns with the qualifications for this role.
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of all facets of healthcare services.
Proven skills in financial modeling and analysis.
Comfortable and experienced in a matrix organizational structure.
Strong analytical abilities and a quantitative mindset.
Proficient conflict resolution skills.
Business planning capabilities, including feasibility studies and program analysis.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and listening skills.
Passionate about teaching and education.
