POSITION SUMMARY:


The Vice President of Medicine oversees the operational functions of the Henry Ford Medical Group (HFMG), focusing on ambulatory clinics, research initiatives, educational programs, and inpatient services.

This role is pivotal in directing the formulation and management of financial and operational strategies, including budget creation and pro-forma business plan evaluations.

The Vice President of Medicine acts as a representative for various departments and HFMG on multiple internal and external committees, supporting the organization by spearheading diverse business unit initiatives.

Furthermore, this position entails managing all facets of Medical Specialties within the Department of Medicine.

The responsibilities encompass supervising over 400 senior staff physicians, 900 support personnel, and 300 resident and fellow trainees, alongside overseeing more than $50 million in annual research funding and an annual budget exceeding $1 billion.

This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Henry Ford Medical Group and collaborates closely with the Chair of the Internal Medicine Program.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively promotes the mission and vision of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS).

Expects and encourages others to exhibit professional behavior aligned with the HFHS mission, vision, and values.

Conducts personnel functions such as interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, and necessary disciplinary actions.

Manages budgetary objectives for efficient operations; evaluates financial performance and implements corrective measures. Responsible for executing workgroup business plans and objectives.

Provides ongoing oversight and coordination for operational workgroups.
Engages in projects as assigned by area, workgroup, and business unit. Integrates operations with other workgroups or business unit areas.

Identifies industry trends that may present opportunities for business development, product line expansion, and collaborative ventures.

Ensures adherence to all regulatory agencies governing healthcare services and compliance with accrediting bodies. Maintains compliance with all internal HFHS standards.
Coordinates activities to enhance clinical, financial, and satisfaction outcomes.
Accountable for strategic growth, programmatic development, and transformative care delivery.
Manages daily business operations to facilitate change (metrics, physician productivity). Builds strong communication and relationships with physicians and faculty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Extensive leadership experience (10 or more years) that aligns with the qualifications for this role.
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of all facets of healthcare services.
Proven skills in financial modeling and analysis.
Experience in a matrix organizational structure.
Strong analytical capabilities and a quantitative mindset.
Excellent conflict resolution skills.
Business planning expertise, including feasibility studies and program assessments.
Exceptional communication, speaking, and listening abilities.
A passion for teaching and education.
Familiarity with marketing and information technology tools.
Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and managing physician practice operations across clinical, inpatient, and academic environments.
Adept at balancing system-wide needs with regional and local demands.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
A Master's degree in finance or business administration is essential.
