Role Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider collaborates with transplant and cellular therapy physicians to deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients undergoing treatment for acute leukemia, stem cell transplants (both allogeneic and autologous), and CAR-T cell therapy. This program is accredited by FACT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the physical and psychosocial condition of patients through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies, identifying any deviations from the norm. Develop diagnoses and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to create and implement treatment plans.
  • Perform surgical wound closures, incision and drainage, debridement, and dressing changes (with the surgeon present).
  • Assist in surgical procedures as a scrub member with the collaborating surgeon.
  • Conduct complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as credentialed.
  • Diagnose medical and surgical issues, prescribing necessary treatments and services to ensure quality patient care.
  • Implement management strategies based on laboratory results, physical assessments, routine diagnostic studies, and therapeutic measures, in accordance with evidence-based practices.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care challenges to significantly enhance patient outcomes.
  • Document and dictate clinical findings accurately and promptly.
  • Provide patient education and maintain preventive health services.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and weekend/holiday rounding as required.
  • Prescribe medications as needed.
  • Contribute to quality initiatives to achieve key quality indicators consistently.
  • Support IRB-approved clinical research and trials through various activities, including ordering diagnostic tests, prescreening patients, recording results, administering interventions per trial protocols, and documenting outcomes.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable standards.
  • Adhere to all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model and resource for staff.
  • Assist in training students, residents, and interns in advanced techniques and procedures.
  • Participate in the review and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establish connections with professional and health-related organizations within the community.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Nurse Practitioner
  • Master's degree in Nursing (MN or MSN) or Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) or equivalent.
Physician Assistant
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licensure/Certification

Nurse Practitioner
  • Active APRN license in the state of Florida.
  • National advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board required for licensure applicants after July 1, 2006.
  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
Physician Assistant
  • Active Physician Assistant licensure in the state of Florida.
  • Current BLS/healthcare certification is required.
