Role of the Advanced Practice Provider

The Advanced Practice Provider collaborates with transplant and cellular therapy physicians to manage the care of patients undergoing treatment for acute leukemia, stem cell transplants (both allogeneic and autologous), and CAR-T cell therapy, in accordance with established collaborative practice protocols. Our program is FACT Accredited.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies, identifying deviations from the norm and developing appropriate diagnoses.
  • Perform surgical procedures such as wound closure, incision and drainage, and debridement, ensuring the surgeon is present in the immediate area.
  • Assist in the operating room alongside collaborating surgeons.
  • Conduct complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as credentialed.
  • Diagnose medical and surgical issues, prescribing necessary treatments and services to ensure quality patient care.
  • Implement management strategies based on laboratory results, physical assessments, and evidence-based practices.
  • Identify and resolve patient care issues to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Document patient interactions accurately and promptly.
  • Provide patient education and preventive health services.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary rounds and participate in on-call rotations as required.
  • Prescribe medications as needed.
  • Contribute to quality initiatives to achieve key performance indicators.
  • Support clinical research and trials by performing various activities such as ordering tests and documenting outcomes.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies.
  • Adhere to all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model and resource for staff members.
  • Assist in the education of students, residents, and interns in advanced techniques and procedures.
  • Participate in the review and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Build relationships with professional and health-related organizations in the community.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with diverse populations, including patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Nurse Practitioner:
  • Master's degree (MN or MSN) or Doctorate (DNP or PhD) in nursing.
Physician Assistant:
  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.
Licensure/Certification

Nurse Practitioner:
  • Active APRN license in Florida.
  • National advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board is required for applicants licensed after July 1, 2006.
  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
Physician Assistant:
  • Active physician assistant licensure in Florida.
  • Current BLS/healthcare certification is required.
Experience

  • No prior experience required.
