Position Overview

SAIC is in search of a Communications Analyst to deliver public affairs and outreach assistance to the Office of the Under Secretary of Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). This role is primarily based at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, and operates in a hybrid capacity, requiring in-person attendance at the Pentagon 2-3 times per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, analyze, and propose solutions to public affairs-related challenges, ensuring thorough tracking of issues until resolution, while addressing related inquiries and correspondence.
  • Act as the social media coordinator for R&E, responsible for drafting, editing, and publishing content on LinkedIn to support the R&E enterprise, its subordinate organizations, stakeholders, and the Department of Defense.
  • Monitor media activities and the information landscape, including the production of daily media summaries.
  • Design and implement strategic and external communication initiatives aligned with OUSD(R&E) responsibilities, priorities, and objectives.
  • Organize and oversee public speaking engagements, media interactions, and other outreach efforts for the entire OUSD(R&E) organization.
  • Regularly meet with R&E leadership and OSD(PA) counterparts to ensure synchronization and coordination of public engagement, media, and outreach activities across the OUSD(R&E) enterprise.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to OUSD(R&E) leadership regarding public affairs and communication activities that enhance OUSD(R&E) messaging priorities.
  • Coordinate media interactions, including preparation for interviews and crafting statements for senior leaders in response to media inquiries.
  • Compile and edit weekly activity reports for dissemination to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense as necessary.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in English, Journalism, or Communications is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, 10 years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the communications sector.
  • Proficient in writing, editing, and conducting research to create comprehensive written materials.
  • Ability to integrate strategic-level communication priorities with organizational communication goals into clear and accessible public affairs products.
  • Familiarity with operational-level strategic communication activities and coordination.
  • Knowledge of the Associated Press style guide.
  • Understanding of the DoD Public Affairs process, including media engagement and public events.
  • Proven ability to interact with senior officials within OUSD(R&E), OSD(PA), and across stakeholder organizations.
  • Possession of an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
