Responsibilities:
As a Research Engineer, you will engage in comprehensive engineering evaluations, design, and implementation of significant projects and systems. Your role will involve making critical decisions regarding design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, testing, and initial operation phases.
Utilize advanced computer-aided engineering and design software, including proprietary tools, to create electronic devices, components, systems, or structures tailored for radio astronomy applications.
You will also enhance existing software and hardware to incorporate new functionalities and rectify design issues.Lead and supervise a team of technical specialists and an electronic assembler in the design, fabrication, testing, and deployment of cryogenic low noise amplifiers for radio astronomy.
Oversee the laboratory's efforts in the design, acquisition, and evaluation of Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits. Ensure that all manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing meet established functional specifications and requirements. Collaborate with programmers and scientists to identify and resolve technical challenges. Assess repair and maintenance requirements and coordinate the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, systems, and structures. Assist in the preparation of cost and time analyses for projects and provide recommendations for procedures, equipment purchases, and enhancements.Mentor cooperative education students and/or summer interns, which includes hiring, training, planning, assigning tasks, addressing concerns, and resolving issues.
Execute supervisory responsibilities in alignment with the organization's policies and applicable regulations. Ensure proactive adherence to safety policies and procedures in your work area.Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related discipline, along with five years of experience in areas such as cryogenic low noise amplifier design, fabrication, testing, and the design and acquisition of Microwave Integrated Circuits (MICs) and Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs), as well as proficiency in Python programming.
Required skills and knowledge of tools and technology may be acquired through academic research experience.-
