Position Overview:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and skilled Statistical Research Specialist to join our Biostatistics Division within the Department of Public Health Sciences. This role involves collaboration with a diverse research team focused on the advancement of innovative methodologies for comparative effectiveness research, particularly in the realm of oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will engage in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Modeling multilevel survival data while addressing confounding factors and missing information.
  • Employing machine learning techniques as applicable to enhance research outcomes.
  • Developing software applications and computational programs to support research initiatives.
  • Implementing new statistical methods on real-world healthcare datasets.

Research Contributions:

The Statistical Research Specialist will be expected to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and assist in the formulation of grant proposals aimed at securing funding.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in survival analysis, missing data methodologies, causal inference, and/or machine learning.
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as R and SAS/STATA.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Appointment Details:

This is a 12-month position with the potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate's education and experience.
