Position Title: Neuroscience Research Specialist at Commonwealth of Virginia

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Research Specialist to contribute to the Department of Neuroscience. This role will focus on advancing our understanding of neurodegenerative conditions, particularly Alzheimer's disease, and will involve collaboration with leading experts in the field.

  • Employ advanced analytical techniques to investigate alterations in carbohydrate structures associated with neurodegeneration.
  • Engage with induced pluripotent stem cells and clinical specimens to derive meaningful insights.
  • Assist in the early identification of Alzheimer's disease and explore potential avenues for therapeutic intervention.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative research setting that emphasizes innovation and excellence in scientific inquiry. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and biochemical methodologies, while also developing skills in research proposal writing and scientific communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Neuroscience, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proficiency in mass spectrometry and data interpretation.
  • Prior experience in quantitative mass spectrometry, glycomics, or glycoproteomics is preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for Alzheimer's research, particularly in relation to APOE and carbohydrate metabolism.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a diverse research team.

Position Details:

  • Initial appointment for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
  • This role is particularly suited for recent Ph.D. graduates seeking to advance their research careers.
  • Full-time research or scholarship opportunities are available.
