Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Specialist to join our innovative research team focused on cardiovascular genetics. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in life sciences, including genetics, molecular biology, and related disciplines. The successful candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at uncovering the genomic and epigenomic factors underlying inherited vascular disorders and cardiomyopathies.

Key Responsibilities:
The selected individual will be responsible for:

  • Conducting advanced molecular biology techniques, including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, cell culture (both monolayer and 3D organoids), and histological/immunohistochemical assays.
  • Participating in the creation and computational analysis of single-cell and spatial genomics datasets to investigate mural cell regulation and disease mechanisms.
  • Independently optimizing protocols, collecting and analyzing data, while collaborating on various team projects.
  • Engaging in a collaborative environment within the Center for Public Health Genomics, fostering partnerships with adjacent laboratories and members of the cardiovascular research community.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of three years of laboratory experience, or six years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent organizational and management abilities.
  • Experience in human genetics, molecular biology, or engineering is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with statistical genetics and next-generation sequencing analyses is preferred.
