Primary Function

The Senior Vice President of Philanthropy for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Inc. is tasked with the design, organization, and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with the CSO's mission and future aspirations. This role entails providing leadership to the development team and fostering a sustainable philanthropic culture to meet both annual and endowment fundraising objectives. As a vital member of the executive team, the Senior Vice President will implement strategies to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring a solid financial foundation for the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Institutional Advancement

Collaborates with the Chief Operating Officer to establish both short-term and long-term goals, accompanied by actionable plans and timelines.

Provides vision and leadership in formulating the strategic direction for Development, overseeing the implementation of systems that enhance fundraising initiatives through individual contributions, government grants, special events, and corporate and foundation partnerships.

Manages the annual fund program, including setting objectives, developing solicitation strategies, and generating necessary materials.

Oversees corporate sponsorship initiatives, focusing on prospect development, solicitation, coordination, and fulfillment.

Ensures effective stewardship of major individual, corporate, and foundation donors to deepen engagement and commitment.

Participates in long-term planning for the department and the permanent endowment fund.

Supports fundraising efforts for Capital Campaigns.

Regularly engages with the Board of Trustees and the Development Committee.

Leads and manages the Development Department staff, including recruitment, mentoring, performance evaluations, and payroll responsibilities.

Develops and advocates for a strategic plan in collaboration with leadership and the board, translating key objectives into compelling messaging to secure financial support for the organization.

Acts as an ambassador for the CSO at fundraising events, receptions, and performances.

Oversees communications as the writer and editor for development-related materials, including solicitations, acknowledgment letters, stewardship communications, and event invitations.

Coordinates special fundraising events, including donor circles, legacy societies, donor rehearsals, and other initiatives that bolster fundraising efforts, in addition to the annual Benefit Concert and Gala.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Expertise in comprehensive campaign management, including Capital and Endowment fundraising.

Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with diverse community populations.

Knowledge of strategic planning, data analysis, and budget management.

Ability to navigate a highly intellectual work environment with sensitivity to its demands.

Proficient in managing and collaborating with teams.

Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.

Comfortable interacting with stakeholders and representing the Columbus Symphony.

Outstanding leadership and project management capabilities.

Creative problem-solving abilities and advanced analytical skills.

Ability to thrive in a dynamic organizational setting.

An enthusiastic, adaptable, and straightforward individual with a proven track record of follow-through.

Familiarity with CRM software.

Commitment to consistently uphold the values of the Columbus Symphony.

Credentials and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; an advanced degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

A minimum of 7+ years of professional experience is necessary.

At least 5+ years of experience in fundraising or a related field.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the organization's needs.
