Job Description

Job Summary

The NYC Bar Association is seeking a highly skilled Referral Counselor to join our team. As a Referral Counselor, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional customer service to the public, while also contributing to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to high-volume inquiries from the public, providing accurate and timely information about legal resources and services.
  • Triage complex legal issues, directing clients to participating lawyers and other relevant resources.
  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of New York law and legal resources available to New Yorkers.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including legal research, public relations, marketing, and public outreach.

Requirements

  • J.D. or L.L.M. from an ABA-accredited law school in the U.S.
  • General knowledge of New York law and legal resources available to New Yorkers, preferred.
  • Bilingual, Spanish required.
  • At least one year of employment in a legal environment/organization.
  • Excellent phone manner, customer service, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office 365 products.

  • Competitive salary range: $53,000 - $60,000 (based on experience) for full-time employment.
