If you are a qualified professional, fully licensed in New York as a master's level social worker, or a DSW, PhD, PsyD or psychologist, or an attorney with a mental health or substance use specialty and clinical experience, this is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a prestigious organization.
This role is unique, situated within a well-established program dedicated to supporting members of the legal community. The program offers essential services to lawyers, judges, law students, staff, and their families who face a variety of personal and professional challenges, including stress, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, family and relationship issues, career concerns, caregiving, and other factors that may hinder optimal functioning.
DEPARTMENT FUNCTION
The Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) operates under the New York City Bar Fund Inc., a recognized non-profit entity of the New York City Bar Association. LAP provides complimentary, confidential support to legal professionals and their families experiencing mental health, substance use, or any personal or professional issues impacting their well-being. LAP serves individuals across multiple counties.
LAP is committed to ensuring that every individual who reaches out for assistance receives prompt, unconditional support, care, and compassion. The program has a longstanding reputation for aiding NYC BAR members, although bar membership is not a prerequisite for accessing LAP services.

- Deliver educational presentations at law schools, bar associations, and other legal entities on recognizing and addressing mental health and substance use disorders.
- Develop and implement educational podcasts.
- Oversee the monitoring of bar candidates and attorneys, ensuring compliance with monitoring requirements.
- Design and implement specialized services for lawyers facing ADHD, PTSD, vicarious trauma, cognitive impairment, and other emerging needs.

- Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans for optimal outcomes.
- Capability to refer clients to the most suitable settings.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
- Commitment to challenging the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent writing, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong networking abilities to build relationships with courts, law firms, law schools, and other legal employers.
- Proven capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and assignments.
- Strong computer and social media skills.
- Flexible hours, with a hybrid of virtual and in-office work.
To apply: Qualified applicants are encouraged to submit a cover letter explaining their interest in the position, although it is not mandatory.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Salary for this part-time position (approximately 21 hours/week) ranges from $59,000 to $62,000 annually, depending on the depth and diversity of skills and years of professional experience. The City Bar's benefits package includes generous paid time off, commuter benefits, employee discounts, and more.
The organization actively seeks a diverse applicant pool and encourages candidates from all backgrounds and unique experiences to apply, particularly those from historically under-represented communities. We welcome diversity of all kinds and ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment based on various protected characteristics.
