Position Title: School Mental Health Specialist

Role Summary:

We are in search of a passionate School Mental Health Specialist to become a vital part of our team. The successful candidate will deliver mental health support to students in an educational environment, fostering their emotional and psychological health while ensuring a nurturing and secure atmosphere for all learners.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-on-one and group counseling sessions to students, focusing on challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and other emotional or behavioral issues.
  • Work collaboratively with educators, school leaders, and families to devise and execute effective intervention plans.
  • Create and oversee personalized treatment strategies tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Conduct evaluations to assess students' mental health requirements and suggest suitable services.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and ensure ongoing support.
  • Inform students, staff, and families about mental health issues and available resources.
  • Keep precise and confidential records of student interactions, documenting all counseling activities and interventions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance students' overall well-being and academic performance.
  • Engage in school meetings, such as Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and student support teams, to advocate for students' mental health needs.
  • Stay updated on best practices in school-based mental health support and pursue ongoing professional development.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Current state licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with youth in educational or similar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, mental health conditions, and therapeutic methods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in multiple languages.
  • Experience with special education populations and IEP processes.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and restorative justice practices.
