PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The TAY Housing program provides long-term shelter solutions for youth experiencing homelessness, including those transitioning from the foster or probation systems. We offer wraparound services to support individual goals and their journey towards stability and independence. Our programs cater to both single and parenting youth, and we currently have a waitlist due to high demand for housing assistance.

POSITION CONTEXT


This role involves delivering comprehensive trauma-informed services to youth in drop-in centers, ensuring inclusivity and safety standards are upheld.

The Housing Support Specialist will focus on providing supportive services aimed at securing and stabilizing housing. This includes motivating participants, building skills, and assisting in navigating housing systems while addressing barriers.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct intake and needs assessments to orient participants to TAY Academy services.
2. Provide direct supervision, crisis intervention, recreational activities, and support services to youth.


3. Collaborate to address participant needs, including assessing housing readiness, navigating resources, and supporting youth through the housing acquisition process; advocate for youth needs and provide independent living skills education and referrals as necessary.

4. Connect youth with both informal and formal community resources and networks. Engage with safe networks to identify suitable housing options, including family reunification and pathways to self-sufficiency.

5. Assist youth in identifying, obtaining, and maintaining stable housing.

6. Facilitate movement in and out of the coordinated entry system, including administering the TAY VI-SPDAT to participants when required.

7. Serve as an advocate while navigating external resources.

8. Educate youth on housing searches and tenant-landlord laws to prepare them for future independence.

9. Monitor participant progress and maintain accurate records, including data entry into approved databases and managing other relevant housing documentation. Assist with data collection for reporting purposes.


10. Conduct ongoing outreach to youth and community organizations, participating in multidisciplinary teams to assist youth in securing and maintaining housing placements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Minimum of two years' experience working with at-risk transition-aged youth, particularly those who have experienced homelessness.
- Familiarity with the Coordinated Entry System and experience in residential and housing services (e.g., case management, resource linkage, housing navigation, voucher systems).
- Reliable transportation is required, with the ability to provide transport to youth as needed.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: $20-23/Hour
