Position Title: Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Manager

Reports to: President

Direct Reports: None

General Overview

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Compliance Manager is responsible for the ongoing assessment of workplace conditions to identify potential hazards and risks. This role ensures adherence to regulatory standards and oversees the management of facilities. The EHS Compliance Manager collaborates with the Director of Operations on facility upkeep, making recommendations for enhancements and partnering with relevant departments to ensure timely execution of maintenance projects.

The EHS Compliance Manager must remain informed about state and federal EHS regulations and develop a framework that promotes a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves the creation, implementation, and maintenance of company policies and programs related to EHS compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to Cal/OSHA, EPA, SWPPP (stormwater), CERS, and all other EHS regulations.
  • Oversee the Worker's Compensation process from initiation to the timely resolution of claims.
  • Manage the Environmental Stewardship Program focusing on sustainability initiatives.
  • Supervise wastewater management processes.
  • Administer vendor accounts related to facility supplies (PPE, first aid, etc.).

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversee facility security measures.
  • Assist with maintenance tasks unrelated to processing operations.
  • Monitor utility performance indicators (electricity, gas, water, wastewater, solid waste).
  • Continuously assess and enhance company practices while staying updated on emerging EHS regulations and industry standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS or a related field.
  • Strong capability to evaluate risks and prioritize resources effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Self-driven, organized, and capable of working independently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with managers across various disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish).
  • Experience in leading or assisting with safety culture initiatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations specific to California.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing setting.
  • Background in operations or engineering.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and environmental safety or a related field, or equivalent work experience will be considered for the right candidate.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand and use a computer for extended periods; ability to answer phones and operate various office equipment. Must be able to bend, stoop, and perform physical functions typical in an office environment. Ability to navigate around equipment, work in varying temperature conditions, handle hand tools, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 40 pounds.
