The Environmental Health & Safety department is tasked with creating and executing programs and policies that guarantee the safety and health of employees while ensuring compliant business operations.
The position of Environmental Health & Safety Specialist 1 involves administering and implementing EHS programs and procedures in collaboration with the EHS Supervisor.
This role adheres to established protocols to assist personnel in maintaining compliance with corporate EHS policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
The individual will tackle problems of limited scope, where analyzing procedures and policies is essential to determine suitable methods and techniques for achieving satisfactory solutions.
Routine tasks will be performed under guidance and supervision, applying company policies and procedures to meet objectives.
Regular direction will be received from the EHS Supervisor, and the individual will acquire new skills as necessary to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in managing and administering all site safety and environmental initiatives, including Chemical Hygiene, Biological Safety, and Fire Safety.
- Support the investigation of accidents and work-related injuries or illnesses. Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and corporate incident reporting systems, and follow up on Workers' Compensation case management activities. Review and enhance the site's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) as required.
- Contribute to the management of the site's Ergonomics Program. Serve as a liaison for associates requesting ergonomic evaluations. Coordinate follow-up activities, track evaluations, and manage equipment orders.
- Support the management of the site's EHS Training Program. Provide limited training based on a pre-established safety curriculum. Maintain the Health & Safety Training database, generate reports, and coordinate scheduling.
- Review and periodically update written safety and environmental programs, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
- Schedule and participate in quarterly Safety Council meetings. Document and distribute meeting minutes, and coordinate communications with committee members.
- Conduct laboratory evaluations to assess compliance with regulations, prepare reports as necessary, and communicate findings to the EHS Supervisor.
- Oversee and coordinate the scheduling and documentation of monthly testing for all eyewashes and emergency showers, monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, and safety equipment needs at the site.
- Coordinate quarterly site inspections across all departments, including documentation and follow-up in support of the EHS Supervisor.
- Ensure all equipment and areas are marked with appropriate warning signs and labels according to established guidelines.
- Stay informed about the basic compliance requirements in the work area and ensure adherence to those standards. Participate in training related to regulatory issues affecting the work area and bring compliance questions or issues to management's attention.
15 Updates and maintains action items within EHS databases. Tracks metrics, prepares, and submits monthly reports.
16 Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
