San Francisco, California, United States Site Therapeutics Full time

Site Therapeutics is dedicated to elucidating the genetic factors that influence immune cell behavior in both health and disease, aiming to leverage this knowledge for the creation of innovative small molecule therapies targeting autoimmune disorders. Utilizing advanced methodologies from the Marson Lab at UCSF/Gladstone, we are engaged in high-throughput functional genomics within human cellular systems to construct a comprehensive framework for precise modulation of immune cell activities. This intricate mapping will facilitate the development of novel therapeutics across various modalities for a spectrum of immune-related ailments.

We are on the lookout for a committed Scientist / Senior Scientist with a profound interest in adaptive immunology and functional genomics to become an integral part of our pioneering team. This role will involve spearheading initiatives to systematically identify the genetic residues that dictate disease-relevant characteristics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and prioritize screening phenotypes in primary immune cells that have therapeutic relevance to human autoimmune conditions.
  • Design and implement immunological, biological, and biochemical assays to discover and validate new targets and their mechanisms.
  • Enhance the culture conditions for primary human T cells and other lymphocyte or myeloid cells.
  • Conduct flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) on primary human cells.
  • Develop and refine high-throughput base editing screens to pinpoint protein sites with functional implications in autoimmune-related phenotypes.
  • Create and standardize protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the culture, differentiation, and screening of primary human immune cells.
  • Collaborate closely with a team of Scientists and Research Associates to adhere to strict timelines while generating a comprehensive map of genomic sites affecting immune cell functions.
  • Remain informed about the latest scientific literature and contribute ideas actively.

Exceptional organizational and communication skills are essential for this position. This role presents a unique opportunity to lead pioneering genetic editing research at the forefront of human immunology and to significantly influence the success of a dynamic, rapidly evolving startup environment.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in immunology or a related discipline, with 0-5 years of relevant laboratory experience (industrial or postdoctoral).
  • Proficiency in immunological assay development and flow cytometry and/or FACS, with a preference for high-throughput experience.
  • Experience in uncovering new mechanisms of action for established immunology-related targets and/or validating mechanisms for novel targets.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture, preferably with primary cells.
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to changing research priorities.
  • Demonstrated scientific excellence and impact, evidenced by publications and presentations.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and organized records of experimental procedures and outcomes.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.
  • Skill in prioritizing tasks, coordinating efforts with colleagues, and meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Self-motivated individual interested in contributing to the establishment of a new team within a startup environment.

We offer:

Alongside a competitive compensation package that includes stock options, we provide comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits, in addition to a 401K plan with a 3% employer contribution for employees and their families.

We believe that fostering a diverse, open, and inclusive culture is crucial to our success.

We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment, hiring, and promotion practices are free from bias based on race, color, citizenship status, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, religion, physical or mental disability, medical or genetic condition, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristics protected by applicable laws.
