Position Overview


This role presents an exciting opportunity for a student to acquire practical experience and a comprehensive understanding of various sustainability challenges associated with food service systems.

Aramark is dedicated to making environmentally conscious decisions throughout our operations to reduce our ecological footprint while delivering high-quality food and service.

Our sustainability framework emphasizes eight key priorities for both people and the planet. The planet priorities include Minimizing Food Waste, Operating Efficiently, Sourcing Responsibly, and Embedding Circularity. The people priorities focus on Engaging Employees, Empowering Healthy Consumers, Building Local Communities, and Sourcing Ethically and Inclusively.

This position will concentrate on sustainability matters through three primary domains:
marketing and communications, food service operations, and student engagement and event coordination. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Sustainability Manager and the Aramark team.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing/Communications:

  • Assist in the creation and execution of sustainability campaigns (such as Campus Sustainability Month, Earth Day, and employee incentive programs).
  • Serve as a liaison between our operations and student sustainability organizations.
  • Help develop educational materials for Aramark locations and organize tabling events centered on sustainable food initiatives.
Food Service Operations:

  • Support events that showcase local farmers and vendors.
  • Actively promote, train, and monitor recycling and composting initiatives.
  • Assist in empowering sustainability advocates at various dining locations.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of campaigns aimed at reducing single-use plastics and enhancing energy and water conservation efforts.
Research & Development (potential projects and reports):

  • Help collect and analyze data for periodic sustainability reports and presentations.
  • Conduct environmental assessments to ensure adherence to sustainable practices.
  • Research strategies to promote more sustainable behaviors (e.g., reducing food waste in dining and encouraging plant-based, climate-friendly diets).

Qualifications

  • Preferred major in Sustainability or Environmental Studies; must be an undergraduate student at Arizona State University.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull items exceeding 50 lbs.

This position may involve physical demands, including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking and standing.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and uniforms may be required.
