Position Overview:
The Laboratory Research Specialist role at Houston Methodist involves executing laboratory investigations on research initiatives within established parameters.

This role demands technical research expertise and the establishment of testing methodologies and protocols under the guidance of the Department Chairperson or Scientist (Faculty).

The Laboratory Research Specialist assesses experimental outcomes and compiles data summaries.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops, tests, and validates innovative processes and assays to enhance RNA production and evaluate critical quality attributes of synthetic RNA.
  • Designs and conducts cell-based and/or animal studies to assess the efficacy and quality of produced RNAs.
  • Contributes to the development of Standard Operating Procedures, as well as research, manufacturing, and quality assurance methods and protocols.
  • Leads the advancement of RNA manufacturing techniques with an emphasis on innovation, automation, and enhancement of current processes.
  • Identifies emerging technologies pertinent to RNA Therapeutics development.
  • Actively participates in laboratory meetings and departmental scientific discussions.
  • Engages with current literature to deepen knowledge in RNA biology, RNA therapeutics, and RNA manufacturing.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will possess a Ph.D. degree with a minimum of two years of post-doctoral experience. A background in RNA Biology is preferred, along with experience in analytical method development for quality control testing.

Team Collaboration:
Assigns and reviews tasks and outcomes for projects completed by assistants. Fosters a positive work atmosphere and contributes to a collaborative, team-oriented environment that supports each other in achieving departmental objectives.

Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyzes data for research grants and publications. Prepares scientific presentations for departmental meetings. Maintains accurate records of all research activities and data collection.

Quality and Safety Assurance:
Establishes and upholds quality control measures for project operations. Writes and maintains regulatory and safety committee applications and protocols. Identifies opportunities for corrective actions and process enhancements, contributing to departmental and institutional quality and safety targets.

Resource Management:
Utilizes resources efficiently and minimizes waste. Demonstrates self-motivation to manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, reducing incidental overtime.

Professional Development:
Participates in grant writing and defines specific research project goals and objectives. Takes responsibility for achieving these goals and seeks opportunities for personal development.
