Laboratory Research Specialist III

At Houston Methodist, the Laboratory Research Specialist III role encompasses the execution and assessment of laboratory analyses on clinical research samples. This position oversees and administers all facets of laboratory services, which include: quality assurance, inventory management, and notably, platelet function assays, with a primary focus on aggregometry. The Laboratory Research Specialist III is responsible for compiling, managing, and analyzing laboratory research data, while also providing support to trainees as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

TEAM COLLABORATION FUNCTIONS
Fosters a supportive work atmosphere and guides the team to be dynamic and focused, actively assisting one another to achieve optimal departmental outcomes. Engages in strategic planning discussions with Research Nurses. Exemplifies excellent, clear, and professional communication skills to ensure mutual understanding and resolve issues. Contributes to a collaborative team environment by effectively sharing relevant information regarding assigned systems. OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS
Conducts aggregometry and sample processing with a focus on quality control, data logging, monitoring, and cataloging. Manages the storage, packaging, shipping, and tracking of study samples to core laboratories across North America. Responds to Cardiology Research calls as required. Aids in the implementation and education of departmental safety initiatives and best practices. QUALITY AND SAFETY FUNCTIONS
Maintains detailed logs of shipments, including air bills and core lab correspondence, while analyzing and summarizing research protocols. Conducts inventory checks and maintains laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring compliance with certification and maintenance agreements. Adheres to OSHA standards and regulations, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), laboratory safety, and biohazard protocols. Cleans and decontaminates the work area and instruments at least once per shift. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates self-motivation to effectively manage time, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritizes daily tasks while providing leadership to team members. Assists management in evaluating products and optimizing the use of existing resources. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNCTIONS Seeks opportunities for continuous learning beyond baseline competencies, focusing on ongoing professional growth. Regularly updates the individual development plan (IDP). Cultivates a positive and constructive educational environment by engaging students and colleagues in valuable learning opportunities aligned with business objectives. Qualifications:

EDUCATION
An associate's degree or two additional years of relevant laboratory experience in lieu of a degree. WORK EXPERIENCE
