Position Overview:

The Senior Research Laboratory Technician plays a pivotal role in the execution and assessment of laboratory analyses on clinical research samples. This position is tasked with overseeing and executing all facets of laboratory operations, including quality assurance, inventory management, and, most critically, platelet function assessments, with a focus on aggregometry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fosters a collaborative and positive workplace, guiding the team to function as a cohesive unit that supports one another in achieving departmental objectives.
  • Engages in strategic planning discussions with Research Nurses.
  • Exemplifies outstanding communication skills to facilitate mutual understanding and resolve issues effectively. Contributes to a team-oriented atmosphere that encourages collaboration and information sharing among research team members.

Laboratory Operations:

  • Conducts aggregometry and sample processing, ensuring quality control, data logging, monitoring, and cataloging.
  • Coordinates the storage, packaging, shipping, and tracking of study samples to core laboratories throughout North America.
  • Responds to calls for Cardiology Research as required.
  • Assists in the implementation and education of departmental safety protocols and best practices.

Quality and Safety Management:

  • Maintains comprehensive logs of shipments, including air bills and correspondence with core labs, while analyzing and summarizing research protocols.
  • Oversees inventory management of laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring compliance with certification and maintenance agreements.
  • Adheres to OSHA standards and regulations, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Regularly cleans and decontaminates the work area and instruments.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates self-motivation in managing time efficiently, minimizing overtime, and prioritizing daily tasks while guiding team members in effective time management.
  • Assists management in evaluating products and optimizing the use of existing resources.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or two additional years of relevant laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of three years of laboratory experience.
