Laboratory Research Specialist II

Position Overview: The Laboratory Research Specialist II role at Houston Methodist involves executing sophisticated laboratory experiments on various research initiatives with limited oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes advanced technical research capabilities to develop and implement testing methodologies and protocols under the guidance of the Department Chair or Scientist.
- Assesses experimental outcomes and compiles data; may supervise and mentor junior research staff.
Essential Functions:
Team Collaboration: Supports the Principal Investigator (PI) or faculty by overseeing a team of Research Assistants and Postdoctoral Researchers in scientific endeavors. Communicates effectively to address needs and issues, ensuring a collaborative environment that fosters scientific success.
Workflow Management: Organizes tasks and proactively resolves challenges while managing multiple priorities. Independently addresses complex problems and informs the PI of resolutions.
Data Analysis: Conducts data analysis for research grants and publications, maintaining meticulous records of all research activities.
Quality Assurance: Under the direction of the PI, prepares and maintains applications and protocols for regulatory and safety committees. Establishes quality control measures for project operations.
Financial Stewardship: Efficiently utilizes resources and manages time to achieve optimal results. Assists in ensuring that supply orders are appropriately allocated to relevant grants.
Professional Development: Engages in publication and grant writing as directed by the PI. Identifies specific research objectives and takes responsibility for achieving them.

Qualifications:
Terminal Degree with six years of post-doctoral experience or a Master of Science degree with nine years of research experience.
Skills and Competencies: Proficient in English communication, capable of addressing sensitive and confidential situations, and able to manage tasks with minimal supervision.
Work Environment: Uniform required; scrubs permitted; business professional attire expected.
